Sep 26, 2009 11:09 AM | Strong-armed, accurate QBs in the world of flag football are hard to come by. Couple that strong-armed qb with a good WR core and you have a match made in heaven...or at least at a local fitness center. Meet the qb part of the equation. Don Cannon aka Arm Almighty aka Troy Mason.
-Welcome Old Man How are things looking coming out of the gate this season?
**Things are looking good for the upcoming season. The schedule that we have is exactly what will need to get better.**
-Let`s start from the beginning...when did you join the league? And when/how did you get with the American Family Fitness team?
**My first year playing was when we were playing over at Ekhardt Middle School. I played with a team called Wachovia for one season. I played center for that year. Then, I was invited to play for AmFamFit by “surprisingly” by Jamel Goodlet.
-That would be Jamel of WUW. haha More on that personnel move later. Now where did that cannon come from?
**Thanks for the compliment- I was a high school quarterback my senior year (only). However, I played Outside Linebacker at Indiana University for 4 years. I have always had the CANNON but DIDN’T always have a chance to show it. -Impressive. Ok now let`s get down to the real business. Your team is right there at the gate to the elite teams (Gunz, D-Mob). What`s holding your squad back?
**That is a great question-we have always been and will continue to be a very good team. Now we are working on being ELITE. First we will need to get out of the first round of the state tournament before anything else. As a “team” we have been to every level since we moved up from the “B”. First round (check), Semi-finals(check) and the Ship(check). Getting there isn’t good enough we need to win it(ask the Buffalo Bills). What is holding us back is the ability to be more effective in the redzone 10yds and in. Also, better decision making in the 4th quarter (time management) against the better teams. -QB taking a bullet for the team. Good decision.
**HAHAHAHA
-You guys gave the Gunz all they could handle in at least 3 different contests. What will it take to cross the line and get the W?
**We have played the Gunz tough because they look just like us (we are better looking) but they have better titles. (1) We are both strong armed QBs in a Pro-set Offense. (2)We both have an athletic white Boy to throw to and they are good kickers. (ha,ha,ha) (3) Finally, an O-line to give us time to get the ball in the playmakers` hands. Our rushers in the past were able to get pressure on Smy with 2 people, so we could put more people in coverage. It wasn’t full proof obviously, but it gave us the best chance to win. -Fair enough. For those joining us mid-post, I am chatting it up with former Indiana University LB, current QB of one of the more proficient offenses in the 804-Troy Mason.
-Being a former B league champ, what`s the real difference between B league and A league ball?
**The biggest difference is the knowledge of the game (flag). The Dbs are smarter (some of them). The overall team speed is faster and the windows that I have to throw into are much smaller. I am a competitor, so I like to better comp.
-You like your chances this season?
**Our chances are very good. The season will be fun and competitive and this is where the better teams test their “Testicular fortitude”. The best against the best. The playoffs is where it will count to most and Amfam is looking forward to be part of the Dance.(no stanky leg please...I’m am a grown ass man).
-What is the missing ingredient you need in order to win it all?
**What is missing is (4.4 speed at QB)!!!!!!! (joking). However, being more mobile will help when the initial play breaks down. We are like the Arizona Cardinals. Pocket QB, strong wide outs with big play potential, but we need to be feared on the defensive side of the field. The teams with the better defenses usually win titles aka (gunz, dmob) I said USUALLY DAMN. Don’t get mad (who u wit or Ipower/FU) you guys play pretty good Defense.
-Speaking of WUW...With them having 3 former AFF guys, how do you feel about their success? Any hard feelings?
** Who u Wit has 3 of our starting players from a year ago and I am happy for their success so far. When you lose over 500lbs of beef with good feet, that is hard to replace. Then you add the MVP of the league to the mix (George), its not rocket science to see why they are having success. NO, NO, NO hard feelings at all. We are still cool (play ball, hangout….whatever). However somebody feelings might be after week 3(see you then). They know our offense well so it will be interesting. Everybody knows that The LAKERS run the triangle, but stopping is a different issue. (Good Luck)
-Confident are we? lol
**Ha
-Ok...you get one WR in the league for one play. 4th n goal from the 7. Countdown your picks from 5 to 1 (and don`t say Paul, Marcus, Dave, Travis and/or Avery). **WOW !!!!!that is hard. Here we go: 5-TC (Primetime) 4-Birdman ((WUW) 3-B Still (Gunz) 2-Chris (Gunz) 1-James Roe (i-Power)
I may have left somebody out, however, the question was 4th down from the 7. The above have great hands and great route running. (Observe, I still took the one that had DROPS,DROPS,DROPS) HA HA!!!
-Ouch. Yes TC is still tough even though he had a rough game in the Spring ship.
**True
-I think we will leave things on that note. Any last words for the people?
**My last words are (D.O.M) Death of the Messageboard. Moment of silence.(sh sh sh) Where is all the trash talking Now!!!!? NANA NA NA HAY HAY HAY GOOD BYE!!!!!!
-HAHAHAHAHAHA Hova couldn`t have said it any better.
Thanks for the time, T Mason.
For Troy Mason, this is Van Peezy aka Petey Greene saying...leave it ALL on the field.
